Focus Session Submissions - 2020 IAMSE Meeting in Malaysia

Thank you for submitting an abstract for a Focus Session for the upcoming IAMSE Meeting to be held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, February 28, 2020.

Definition of a Focus Session: The purpose of a 90-minute Focus Session is to “focus in” on a specific topic in small group discussion format. Groups of 10-50 individuals consider a particular topic in an interactive format. Formats can be variable. For instance, the Session Leader may arrange for the pros and cons of a particular issue to be presented by a mini-panel discussion. Alternately, the group may be subdivided and certain tasks assigned to be developed for summary during the last 20-minutes of the session. Discussion in a paradigm of professional development is the goal, so not more than one-third of the time is to be used for formal presentation (half of the time if using panel discussion format).

Criteria that will be used for reviewing your submission:

  • Importance/Significance of the Topic: Does the topic of the session address a significant issue?
  • Appropriateness of Topic: Is the topic of the abstract session appropriate for the IAMSE
meeting? Does the session address an issue that will be of interest to attendees at the meeting?
  • Approach: Does the proposed session adequately address the stated issue?
  • Clarity: Is the session well thought out and clearly presented in the abstract?
  • Plan to Promote Discussion/Interaction: Does the session present a clear and adequate
plan to promote discussion and interaction among attendees?
  • Generalizability/Transferability: Can information learned at the session be transferred to other settings or institutions?
  • Qualifications of Presenters: Do the presenters appear to be well qualified to lead the session?
